PROGRAM:
Rtn. Charlie Funk introduced Jan Jensen: Iowa Women’s Basketball.
Jan Jensen is the Associate Head Coach of the Iowa Women’s Basketball team. She has coached women’s basketball for 27 years; 11 of those years at Drake University and 16 of them at the University of Iowa.
Jan lead the nation in scoring as a high school senior and was inducted into the Des Moines Register Hall of Fame. She played college ball at Drake and coaches post players at Iowa.
She talked about the talent of this year’s team and the challenges they’ve faced. They’ve been dealing with a lot of injuries, including a season-ending ACL injury suffered by Tania Davis and Mackenzie Meyers’s broken hand. Along with Megan Gustafson, Davis and Meyers are the team’s star players.
She said despite losing two of their top players, the rest of the team has continued to work hard and beat Wisconsin anyway. They also continue to work hard in school, keeping their GPAs above 3.0.
Jan said to stick with this team and continue to support them. She asked for everyone to make sure to get out and support them the rest of the season because this team is worth cheering for. She invited everyone to Minnesota for Thursday’s game.
President Mike thanked Jan Jensen for her presentation and suggested her next career be in motivational speaking.
The meeting ended at 1:00 pm as President Mike led the assembly in reciting The Four Way Test.
