Rtn. LaShonda Kennedy announced: The Distinguished Young Women of Iowa Scholarship Program is recruiting host families from the Club to host these scholarship candidate young women in Iowa City on February 13-16th. Those interested can contact Christina Kimerle at Christina@facf.org
PROGRAM:
Rtn. Curt Heideman introduced Tom Brands: Iowa Wrestling.
Tom Brands is the head wrestling coach of the UI team. He is a 1996 Olympic gold medal winner for the US. He is married and has three children.
He stated that UI wrestling is down in ranking, 7th nationwide, but may be moving to 5th, 6th position. He listed schools that are better from UI and those that are lower in rank.
Sunday 14th is an important day for UI wrestling team with Oklahoma State. The team has been recruiting and powerful team members will be joining. He talked about Spencer Lee, who has earned national attention and coming to Iowa. Alex Marinellie is another team member, who is an asset for the team. Kash Wilkie has improved in his performance this year. Vince Turke, Carter Happle are other wrestlers on the team. He mentioned the interactions between the fans and the coach and the team. The team has 42,000 fans.
They are also talking about a new facility, which will require financial management. Athletics Department is working with a presidential committee to balance the academics and athletics of athletes, apparently their motto is win-graduate. Thomas Gilman, a team wrestler will most likely go to Olympics in 2020. He listed other team members that will either go to Olympics or will become good coaches in the future.
President Elect Steve thanked Tom Brands for his engaging and informative presentation.
The meeting ended at 1:00 pm as President Elect Steve led the assembly in reciting The Four Way Test.
