Our Meeting was called to order by Past President Verne Folkmann, presiding for President Steve Quigley, who is out of town. Announcements: Rtn. Jody Braverman provided information on Operation Warm and shared examples of children’s winter jackets that are purchased with our donations. Rtn. Devin van Holsteijn announced what is needed for our club to win the Crisis Center Food Fight. 205 lbs. of food per member is needed or $52 per member. We may use the online donation form, donate by end of July! Rtn. Mace Braverman announced that he will be donating $3000 to the Crisis Center and encourages all in our club to be over the top donors! PROGRAM: Rtn. Tom Cilek, introduced Nick Pfeiffer, Director of Marketing & Communications at the Iowa City / Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Nick shared many details surrounding Ragbrai and the plans as Iowa City is prepared to host a Ragbrai overnight stop for the first time in 42 years. The Iowa City theme for the stop is, “Book It To Iowa City”. The theme highlights our City of Literature designation. Nick acknowledged the 50 committee chairs who have helped to organize committee from housing, to safety, to campgrounds and many others. Juli Johnson, Director of Parks and Rec, helped to describe the activity layout and street closures surrounding the overnight event. We anticipate 12,000 official registered full week riders, 3000 single day official riders and anywhere from 3000-6000 single day unofficial riders. Nick asked us to be great hosts, welcome the riders and share in the excitement of showing off our area to riders of the world. The meeting ended at 1:00 pm as Past President Verne Folkmann led the assembly in reciting The Four Way Test. |
