Rtn. Jim Merchant delivered a very special Rotary Moment of Gratitude and Positivity. Today is Heart Safe Day in Iowa City, celebrating and recognizing our community partners – City of Iowa City, City of Coralville, Community Foundation of Johnson County, and the Johnson County Ambulance Service. Our club hopes to resume CPR and AED training next year. During the pandemic, the Heart Safe Initiative has worked with partners to distribute more AEDs in our community. Tonight, there is a reception to recognize and thank their donors at Midwest One Bank. The Rotary Kerber HeartSafe Initiative all began with a $10,000 grant from Rotary. PROGRAM:
President Eric Weiler announced today’s speaker, UI Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jan Jensen. In addition to her important role as a coach, Jan is also very committed to serving her community, receiving many accolades for her involvement. Jan is a native of Kimballton, Iowa and graduated from Drake University with a master’s in education and has lived in the Iowa City community for 22 years.

Jan believes that much of the Iowa Women Basketball Team’s culture and success comes from a place of gratitude. Players are motivated when you are staying positive, appreciative, and staying grateful in the moment, even while intensely driving for success. The team looks to recruit players with similar values to the team and coaching staff and also recognizes each player’s unique gifts.

Jan is so grateful for the fans and all the things that the Iowa City community members do to make the players feel at home at the University of Iowa. The culture and community in the Iowa City area are a great recruiting tool. Jan ended her presentation by answering an abundance of thoughtful questions from the club.

The meeting ended at 1:00 PM as President Eric Weiler led the assembly in reciting The Four Way Test.
