PRESIDENT and OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS:

PROGRAM:
Andre Perry returned with his annual summer tour for the traditional mid-summer stop at noon Rotary to share the vision that informs Hancher and to provide highlights of the upcoming season….
…and a few facts: a 100-year history of creativity at UofI; 10k annual average annual student attendance at performances; 5 master classes/week led by visiting artists, serving 2k UofI students and 1.5k K-12 students annually, on average; 10 yr. anniversary of the opening of (new) Voxman Hall this year; 20-yr anniversary of the $1-B recovery from the great flood. Who realized?
Vision: Destination (i.e., make Hancher a), creativity in all artforms, and creative thinking to spawn artistic communities across all disciplines, both academic and artistic.
Glimpses of the upcoming 26-27 Season (tickets are already on sale for many at the website, btw):
- The always enjoyable Broadway series
- A wide variety of performing arts shows (e.g., dance, theatricals, contemporary arts)
- Club “H”, for a more intimate setting (<=200 patrons), usually offbeat, always enjoyable
- Infinite Dream events showcasing future theater forms and styles
- Stop/Time-this year featuring multiple IC locations, part performance, part conference
- Touring music events (headliners and niche artists “doing their thing(s)”.
Some particularly notable upcomers:
- KC Symphony Orchestra
- Alonzo King and his LINES Ballet
- Kronos Quartet, premiering 50 new original commissions over multiple concerts, one commemorating our own Wally Chappel.
