President Eric Weiler announced that the Membership (recruiting and engaging members) and Sargeant in Arms (arriving 30 minutes prior to the meeting to help set up) committees are looking for some new members. Please reach out to Eric if you are interested.

PROGRAM:
Rtn. Devin van Hosteijn and Rtn. Barb Thomas announced today’s speaker, Joe Briddle. Joe is a senior at the University of Iowa, double majoring in business analytics and finance. Joe serves as the Finance Director of the UI Dance Marathon (UIDM). He plans to pursue a career in the nonprofit sector, or a company committed to serving the community.
The Dance Marathon was started at the University of Iowa in 1994, raising $31,000 for pediatric cancer patients at the UIHC in its first year. It is now the largest student organization on campus with about 3,000 student members each year. The University of Iowa Dance Marathon has raised over $31,800,000 in the past 27 years.
The campaign theme this year is “Endless Hope” to help pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients at Stead Family Children’s Hospital. They provide financial support with treatment costs, parking passes, and meal vouchers. UIDM also provides emotional support to the families with respite care and family events. The Marathon also provides funding for pediatric cancer research. UIDM also has a very positive impact on students, providing an opportunity to gain leadership experience and finding their passion for serving others.
Joe first got involved in the UIDM as a West High School student. During his freshman year of college, Joe was diagnosed and treated for cancer. After arduous treatment, he is now cancer-free and more committed than ever to the work of UIDM. To learn more, please visit: https://dancemarathon.uiowa.edu/.
