President-Elect Eric Weiler shared that Rtn. Dick McKeen was removed from life support yesterday. He has been a long time member, please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
 
Rtn. Ryan Bell shared that the Busineess Partnership is hosting a speed networking event next Wednesday, March 10th at 4 pm. This is an opportunity to leverage our Business Partnership membership and talk about how great IC Noon Rotary is as well as a chance to meet and talk with others in our community! https://iowacityareabusinesspartnership.growthzoneapp.com/ap/Events/Register/GrZzee6r?sourceTypeId=Website. Please also join the Membership 101 session happening right before Speed Networking at 3:00 pm, you will learn about the value and opportunities available through membership.
 
Rtn. Ron Ettinger shared that we are involved in giving out dictionaries to 4th graders at Horn, Weber, Alexander, Kirkwood and Wickham. . If you are interested in volunteering, please call Ron Ettinger at home except Tuesday and Thursdays during the day (the No. is 338-6778). You will set up a time to come to his house to pick up the dictionaries (the address is 230 Magowan Ave.); and we will need you to unpack the dictionaries and put a nameplate in each dictionary and call the principal of the school to set up a date to deliver the dictionaries, it will not be necessary to go into the fourth grade classroom.
 
Rtn. Trisha Smith invited you to join United Way of Johnson & Washington Counties, UIHC, and Johnson County Public Health on Thursday, March 11 at 11:00 am as they present a panel discussion on the COVID-19 vaccination. President- Elect Eric Weiler shared that Rtn. Chuck Hesse has his 85th birthday today!
 
President-Elect Eric Weiler inducted our newest member, Rtn. Jeffrey Dancer, who was introduced and is sponosered by Rtn. Ryan Bell.
 
Rtn. Dimy Doresca shared a moment of gratitude and positivity.
 
PROGRAM: Eric Johnson on The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act: The Bipartisan,
Market-Based Climate Solution
 
Rtn. Briana Hoffman introduced our speaker, Rtn. Eric Johnson.
 
Eric Johnson is a Co-Leader for the Iowa City Citizens’ Climate Lobby.
 
Eric addressed the following 3 questions :
 
What do we know about climate change?
  • It is caused by us and Greenhouse Gases. He explained how this happens and what we’re up against, this includes an increase in extreme weather events. In Iowa, that means more hot days and a decrease in corn yields.
Who is Citizens’ Climate Lobby and solutions?
  • The CCL gives you personal education and training, a roadmap, action opprotunities and support. Eric shared what makes a good climate solution. CCL champions A carbon fee & dividend policy, which meets a good climate solution. He shared the bill, the co-sponsers and the benefits.
What actions we can take?
  • Continue to act locally – share what you know about climate change
  • Advocate for an effective national policy.
  • Join the monthly calling campaign to your Senators and Represenatives
