President Barbara Thomas reminded everyone it is time to renew dues by July 1, 2021.  If you are set up with ACH auto deducts you do not need to do anything. Also, please complete the survey about returning to in-person meetings.  Please complete by noon on Friday, May 21, 2021. 
 
Rtn. Eric Weiler reported the top three areas of importance for the weekly in-person meetings were accessibility, consistency in the same room each week, and affordable lunch. The board looked at 30 locations and landed on the in-person meetings will be held at The Highlander on North Dodge Street. The hope is in-person meetings will begin in July and will continue to have the Zoom option.
 
Rtn. Tricia Smith from the United Way of Johnson and Washington County announced that our club has been selected to receive an award and will be presented at the June 2nd event at 5pm which will be a completely virtual event. Register: https://www.unitedwayjwc.org/2020
 
Rtn. Linda Farkas – Youth Leadership committee met last Tuesday to celebrate two rough years.
 
The Rotary moment of positivity and gratitude was given by Rtn. Susan Brennan.
PROGRAM: Sustainability in Johnson County.  Becky Soglin.  Annual 2020 poll reported adults believe global warming is happening and believe global warming will harm people.
 
The 2014-2015 board strategic plan was to reduce energy use through efficiency/upgrades, reduce energy load of office plus other equipment, set sustainable capital projects standards and sustainability minimum standards, create internal sustainability and energy reinvestment fund and conduct renewables feasibility study.
 
The 2018 county comprehensive plan goals were to support and implement sustainability strategies thar preserve national resources, develop and/or coordinate with local and regional hazard mitigation, resiliency, and climate change planning, support affordable and equitable access to quality housing, support and advance energy efficiency, resource conservation, and renewable energy programs, prioritize green building and sustainable development practices for existing and future residential, commercial, and individual development, remain a leader in green facilities, operations, an infrastructure.
 
The internal sustainability and energy reinvestment fund has $585,000 in energy rebates plus incentives since 2014.
 
Since October 2016 $82,500 has been invested in sustainability grants for nonprofit organizations.
 
Solar group buys bring smaller solar projects together. Each household gets a more affordable price for an array attached to their own home. The Midwest Renewable Energy Association was responsible for 40+ solar group buy programs.
