Our Meeting was called to order by President Barb Thomas, who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Rtn. Devin van Holsteijn shared Zoom tips.
 
President Barb shared that we will be starting live in-person meetings again at The Highlander in July. There will continue to be an option to join via Zoom. Rtns. Ryan Bell & Eric Weiler were live at The Highlander today to begin testing technology for the hybrid meetings.
 
President Barb announced Kelly Stobb had a baby girl on April 19 and shared some adorable photos.
 
Rtn. Brad Baldes gave updates on the Fore The Families golf event on June 7. President Barb shared survey results. 96% of our Rotarians who participated in the survey have completed their vaccine. 54% want to begin meeting again now. 72% are willing to order meals in advance. We will be requiring Rotarians to order their meals in advance to help The Highlander kitchen staff prepare for us. 23% of participants were willing to help run technology for the meetings. Please let President Barb know if you can help; we will rotate through different individuals.
 
Rtn. Trisha Smith shared her thanks for our Rotary club’s support of The United Way with the “I Am United” award. She invited all of us to join the United Way’s 2020-21 Community Celebration, which will be virtual on Wednesday, June 2nd at 5pm. Rtn. Kim Casko of Iowa City Area Business Partnership shared that the Community Leadership Program is celebrating its 30th year with a CLP Day of Service & Celebration: https://iowacityareabusinesspartnership.growthzoneapp.com/ap/Events/Register/kLxRmQyp?sourceTypeId=Website&mode=Attendee. Applications for this fall’s CLP class are open and due June 18th. Rtn. Bill Bywater shared a moment of positivity and gratitude. He recalled early experiences in Rotary after he was inducted in 1964. He became president of the Rotary club when he was 29 years old. He remembers Rotary trips and memories, which have exceeded his expectations.
Rtn. Kim Casko introduced the program. She also identified that a lack of available employees in the workforce is the most common problem that local businesses are reporting.

Opportunities To Help Local Middle & High School Students With Career Connectedness

Kirkwood Workplace Learning Connection allows students to experience and explore possible career paths through internships and job shadows without spending money. Prior to choosing a college degree and career, this program allows students to build their resumes and confidence.
