PROGRAM: Opening of The Xtreme Arena in Coralville
Rtn. Devon van Holsteijn introduced speaker Rtn. Josh Schamberger, . Josh shared that the ribbon cutting for the Xtreme Arena is today at 4 p.m. Xtreme Arena is the final anchor tenant, and is vital to what Think Iowa City (the Convention & Visitors Bureau) does in this area.
The arena has approximately 5,100 seats, which is a strategically planned size for specific concerts, family shows, and sporting events. It will be the new home for the University of Iowa volleyball team. Women’s gymnastics and other sports may also call Xtreme Arena home in the future. One of the first events will be the USA Wrestling 2020 Senior nationals.
They will announce today that they have signed a lease with a professional hockey team, which will start in September of 2021. The team is affiliated with an NHL team, so the players will be signed with the NHL and will be working their way up to the NHL level.
The GreenState Family Fieldhouse is connected to the arena. It is 51,000 SF, which is 5 regulation basketball courts. It is designed to allow two different events going on in the fieldhouse and arena at the same time.
