PROGRAM: Open Heartland

Rtn. Gary Pacha introduced Deb Dunkhase, Iowa City AM member and past president. She is the team leader of the Iowa Most program in Guatemala and coordinator of Open Heartland.

Deb shared about the non-profit organization Open Heartland, which was created to serve the people of Johnson County, including immigrants and minorities. They serve, feed, clothe, shelter, and connect resources for all those in need in our community. Open Heartland, 7 Wellesley Way, Iowa City, IA 52245, debdunkhase@gmail.com.

Rtn. Brianna Wills shared a moment of gratitude and positivity. Today is the 3-year anniversary of the day they transferred their son, Calder, who had cancer, from getting treatment in Minnesota to Iowa. Calder lived longer than the doctors expected with help from over 30 blood transfusions. She is thankful for all of the strangers who literally gave a piece of themselves to help her son live longer. In the idea of service above self, this is something you can do for others in our community.
