Our Meeting was called to order by President Steve Quigley.

The Club observed a Moment of Silence for the passing of former Rtn. Tom Breese.

Announcements:

Rtn. Christina Kimerle, executive director of Friends of the Animal Center provided cold weather recommendations for our pets.

President Quigley announced on behalf of Rtn. Aaron Schaefer and the music committee that they are looking for additional members of the music committee.

President Steve Quigley introduced our program speaker, Mike Saeugling. Mike graduated from the University of Iowa in 1980 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He has been a consulting engineer in the Iowa City area since 1980. Mike has travelled to El Salvador several times with EWB. Mike has been working with Engineers without Borders for the last 14 years.
PROGRAM:
Mike Saeugling helps the national organization of Engineers Without Borders’ and the local Iowa Professional Chapter. Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a non-profit humanitarian organization that partners with developing communities worldwide. Their mission is to improve quality of life by implementing environmentally and economically sustainable engineering projects. Through the Iowa Professional Chapter of EWB, engineers have been involved in El Salvador since 2010, working to provide potable water to rural villages in south central El Salvador. Their group includes several types of engineers and non-engineers. This organization works in partnership with outside organizations so they may be as effective as possible. This group uses their expertise to create water system foundations, bringing a critical improvement to the lives of those in these communities. If you are interested in becoming involved either locally or by travelling to El Salvador, Mike and the group are happy to talk to you about volunteering.

The meeting ended at 1:00 pm as President Steve led the assembly in reciting The Four Way Test.

The Club enjoyed singing America the Beautiful & Viva le Rotary, led by Rtn. Devin Van Holstjein on piano.
