PROGRAM: Peter Balestrieri on Remarkable Artistry: Introduction to the UI Libraries' Sackner Archive of Concrete & Visual Poetry The UI Libraries' Sackner Archive of Concrete & Visual Poetry was founded by Ruth & Marvin Sackner, 1979, Miami Beach. They collected over 75,000 items. The Sackner’s coordinated having the collection moved to the library in 2019 as the chosen permanent home for the collection. What is concrete and visual poetry? CONCRETE: arrangement of linguistic elements in which typographical effect is more important than traditional lines in conveying meaning. VISUAL: often a poem in which the visual arrangement of lines of text is important in conveying the intended message of the work. Visit the main library gallery in person by appointment only M-F, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm or online at lib.uiowa.edu/gallery/exhibit/sackner.
