Announcements:
 
District Governor Steve Dakin announced this Saturday at noon will be the Foundation luncheon via Zoom. When you register for the luncheon you will receive an acknowledgement with the link to attend.  If you have questions, contact Verne Folkmann.
 
Rtn. Anna Moyer Stone reminded everyone next Thursday, Nov. 12 will be the Joint Services Club Luncheon. Guest Speaker is Bruce Harreld. No ticket required.  Just join our club's regularly scheduled zoom meeting.
 
Ashlee Hopkins from DVIP spoke about the grant received from Rotary. The funds are going towards an increase in services due to COVID, including housing outside of their facility.
 
Rtn. Bill Oglesby shared a video about Haiti and the mobile medical jeep funded by Rotary for prenatal care.
 
President Barb Thomas launched a poll about the Dec. 31st meeting. Results were to cancel the meeting at 40% and 38% for a fun social event.  If you have any strong feelings feel free to contact Barb.
 
Rtn. Linda Muston shared a moment of gratitude and positivity.
 
PROGRAM: Peter Balestrieri on Remarkable Artistry: Introduction to the UI Libraries' Sackner Archive of Concrete & Visual Poetry
 
The UI Libraries' Sackner Archive of Concrete & Visual Poetry was founded by Ruth & Marvin Sackner, 1979, Miami Beach. They collected over 75,000 items. The Sackner’s coordinated having the collection moved to the library in 2019 as the chosen permanent home for the collection. What is concrete and visual poetry? CONCRETE: arrangement of linguistic elements in which typographical effect is more important than traditional lines in conveying meaning. VISUAL: often a poem in which the visual arrangement of lines of text is important in conveying the intended message of the work. Visit the main library gallery in person by appointment only M-F, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm or online at lib.uiowa.edu/gallery/exhibit/sackner.
 
The meeting ended at 1:00 PM as President Barb Thomas led the assembly in reciting The Four Way Test.
