For the tenth consecutive year, Demi Dorescu welcomed this year’s Tippie College cohort of the Washington Mandella Fellows Program (WMFP).  Twenty-plus enchanting and charming young entrepreneurs from as many sub-Sharan African countries networked with Club members. Two exchanged club flags with PDV, while five told their personal stories of developing businesses engaged in agriculture, finance, construction, and publishing, and, most importantly, creating community in their countries.

 

The WMFP is sponsored by the State Department.  Every year, upwards of 45k individuals from the sub-Sahara vie for ~700 slots via a long, multi-step application process.  Those selected come to the US to be hosted for the 6 week program at 26 universities where they will network, volunteer, attend classes designed to help them improve their entrepreneurial vision, and visit with established practitioners in their chosen fields.
